patter cross's studio transformation

The Before

My previous scrap area was functional for me. I purchased drawers from Wal-Mart and put them on an old desk my husband used when he was in high school. It worked very well but I was finding that I needed more drawers, and some of the drawers were getting so heavy that they were falling onto the drawers below.

I knew I needed to do something different. My husband and I tossed around different ideas including built-in furniture. We decided that would not work for us since if we were to move, I could not take it with me and it might deter the sale of our home. I also knew that I wanted to go vertical. So, after much research and discussion, I went with the ScrapNcube.

What Is a ScrapNcube?

ScrapNcubes are tables, drawers, cubes, shelves, and various accessories that you purchase to design your own scrap unit. Their products are made out of Baltic Birch hardwood which is very strong and offers lifelong durability. The units are so strong that I can even stand on my table. I do not have the problem of heavy drawers falling anymore. All of the corners on each piece are mitered for a nice clean look and it helps the pieces have a nice tight fit. All of their products also offer a lifetime guarantee on workmanship.

Finding the Unit Right for You

When trying to decide on which pieces to order, I printed pages from the site referencing the sizes of the different products they offer. I then measured many of my supplies. I wanted to make sure I was ordering the correct pieces. Then I created an Excel spreadsheet noting the item number, description, and quantity of each piece I needed to order. This helped me stay organized since it can be overwhelming. Then using my spreadsheet as a reference, I called the company to place my order. It turned out to be very wise for me to call and place my order because two of the pieces would not have worked the way I had intended. Cindy got me exactly what I needed. She spent a lot of time with me and made sure my order was just right. They are definitely an awesome company to work with! They also have pre-designed units if you do not want to design your own. Look on the site to see if a pre-designed unit might work for you.

Can't Buy a Full Unit

If you find the expense of the ScrapNcube to be more than you can afford, start small. Order one or two pieces at a time as you can afford them. Ask for gift certificates for your birthday, Christmas, etc. You will be surprised at how much even a few drawers at a time will help.

The After

Here is my scrap area now:

I have added a few more cubits since ordering this initial unit. I have had my unit for two years now, and it still seems brand new. I do not regret my purchase one bit. I can honestly say that it has been one of my wisest scrapbooking purchases since I started this awesome hobby. I use my unit to store paper, embellishments, chipboard, rub-ons, punches, stamps, stamp ink, QuicKutz dies, ribbons, adhesives, tools, flowers, buttons, etc. You name it, it can all be stored here. Here is a look into a few of my drawers:

So, before creating your new scrap room be sure to consider this awesome product. Believe me, you will not be disappointed.
